Hornby 3031 Dean Single
Another unusual loco sent for sound fitting this week, this GWR 'Dean Single' is a fairly old loco in terms of tooling but still runs well under DCC control with a stay alive. I had considered putting some of the parts in the tender but because of the way they are loosely coupled I decided to put everything in the loco. When I recorded the video I hadn't noticed that one of the front wheel sets wasn't properly clipped in, so the front wheels aren't level in the video.
Fitting Sound To The Bachmann 205
I had a Bachmann 205 sent for sound fitting, I used Legomanbiffo sound and a 20x20x7 megabass speaker which fits neatly above the decoder. Use a small screwdriver to take the 2 screws out from under the cab Prise the body away from the chassis with a prising tool to release the clips Use double sided tape or a sticky dot to hold the speaker above the decoder, don't use black tack on the decoder which heats up in use. See a video of the finished model below and a comparison to one fitted with an EM2 speaker. Find the tools...
Sound Fitting The Heljan Class 14
When I saw Heljan announce a new batch of 14's I knew I had to get one, I went for the attractive maroon livery. Fitting sound wasn't as easy as I expected, they have updated the chassis to 21 pin but there is still no space for a speaker so i had to mill the chassis block. The motor and pick up connections were the wrong way round on mine, as well as some of the lights being plugged into a socket called 'track' so I had to swap a few wires around before it all worked. It was worth...
Sound For The Bachmann MLV
The MLV is a fairly straight forward model to fit sound to compared to some of the models we do. Firstly take the 4 screws out (one at each corner). Use some thin plastic to help release the clips, our pack of 4 guitar picks is ideal We used a 20x20x7 speaker over the hole in the floor, bigger speakers would fit but aren't necessary for this type of electric sound Find the decoder and speaker here, and the screwdriver and guitar picks here.
Sound Fitting The Triang Dock Shunter
This model was sent to me already converted to DCC and already fitted with Ultrascale wheels, but the owner had decided he wanted to add sound and a stay alive. See how we did it and how it sounds in the video below.
