This is a standard Hornby Next18 sound decoder, bundled with a Plux16 adapter to work with models which have a plux22 socket. You may lose some light functions, as the plux16 connector has less lighting outputs than a Plux22 connection, but the main connections are there for the motor and directional lights, so the decoder is plug and play, in models such as the new Bachmann 20, 37 and 47. You need to use these with an 8 ohm speaker, which requires you to take one speaker out of most Bachmann models, this usually unscrews, see the video guide here.

Part of the innovative HM7000 range, the Next18-pin Bluetooth® and DCC sound decoder is ready to plug into locomotives featuring a Next18 (NEM662*) socket. The Next18 socket is found in modern Hornby locos, many other locomotives in 00, H0 and some smaller scale locomotives.

The decoder is designed to supply 500mA continuous load to the main motor and a peak demand of 1,000mA, making it highly suitable for most 00 and H0 scale locos.

Also included are assorted 'speaker enclosures'. When installing the speaker inside your locomotive, picking the largest enclosure which will fit inside the loco body will give the best sound reproduction from your speaker.

Download your first set of sounds and install them via the HM7000 app - you can download different sound packs and change those on your decoder later if you wish.

*please note, this decoder does not meet NEM662 space requirements. Please check the locomotive has sufficient space prior to purchasing.

Choose from the standard sugarcube speaker kit which requires assembly, or choose one of the free upgrades which comes with the plug to connect it to the decoder.

The sound files are all free on the Hornby HM DCC app for Apple or Android and you can load them on at home in around 20 minutes, but if you would prefer to have the sound already installed we offer that service here.
