To fit sound to the EFE 143/144, start by removing the screw which holds the cover for the socket and remove the blanking plug. For the easiest install you can simply fit the decoder and use the built in speaker. You can improve the sound by adding a second speaker, we used a 26x11x4 which was sanded on both sides to make it thin enough to fit in the same space as the decoder. This was soldered to the same speaker connections as the built in speaker, which are next to the next18 socket. We also left the built in...

Despite its narrow body, the Heljan 58 has plenty of space for sound with one or two speakers. Start by prising off the body, there are no screws, just clips that hold it to the chassis. To save trying to study photos of them later, make a mark on the chassis and body at one end so you get the body the right way when refitting it! Use black tack to hold the wires in place, there are little channels in the chassis where the wires should go but in most models they are just floating above the flywheel and...

There's a few variatons of the Heljan Railbus so the method shown below does vary slightly, but they all come apart in a similar way. Start by removing the Horns and hadrails. Then prise the body upwards using a plastic tool so that you don't damage the paint. The decoder is under the pcb on top of the model, you need to remove two screws from the black plastic part which holds it to lift it off. Make sure no plugs come out of the board as they come out fairly easily. Place the speaker in the space between the...

We fitted sound to this excellent Bachmann 101 model. Start by removing the 4 screws from the powered coach, there are two at each end. Next use a prising tool to help release the clips and pull the body away from the chassis. We like the 30x17x4mm speaker for DMU's. There's a section of the seating which you can remove and it reveals an opening in the floor to position the speaker over. To access it remove the clips from that hold the PCB and lift it off. Once fitted, re fit the PCB and clips. We had a slight...

If you have sound in a new 158 or want to put sound in one you have probably considered upgrading the speakers. This page shows you how to access the built in speaker (or speakers) and replace them. Start by fitting the decoder if you don't already have a sound decoder fitted. This fits under the panel underneath which just unclips. You can stop at this point and use the decoder with the built in speakers, or take the body off and upgrade the speakers. Start by unscrewing the valance with a small screwdriver, then use guitar picks or other...
